FIM 580 Contessa: when a supplier becomes a partner

Cannes, Quai Saint Pierre. The 580 Contessa is the new flagship of FIM – Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi, the shipyard based in Cividate al Piano, near Bergamo: the first model in the Contessa line and the yard's first sport-fly, in its world premiere. Until a few days earlier, the flagship had been the 500 Regina. This is the second stop of our tour of Cannes, with a different format: this time Katia is the one asking the questions, to Mattia Ferrario, Brand Image & Design Specialist at FIM.

A yacht that surprises

"I have visited every detail of this yacht," Katia says in the video. "It goes beyond anything I have seen at Cannes: attention to detail, original and, above all, intimate for the owner." Mattia puts it this way: "Our main focus is to always bring something new, something innovative, and to tell a story that began not so many years ago but today has only things to say." At Cannes the shipyard brought more than the 580: it officially announced the 400 Contessa Coupé project and previewed a future 640, which will become the new flagship. "The 580 is an innovative yacht, a yacht that stirs emotion, that surprises and offers many small glimpses on board."

A detail that seems obvious

And the faucets? "They seem like a somewhat obvious detail," Mattia admits. "Over the years, this search has been somewhat neglected. But on a high-level yacht, no detail can be overlooked. Faucets are something you deal with every day."

Beyond aesthetics, which is more subjective, there is the question of quality. "Absolutely essential. And searching together with you for the best product, the most suitable one, the one most in line with the quality standard and the aesthetics of the yacht, is an integral part of the project. Involving partners in this way is the key to achieving a real result."

Supplier or partner

It is a word Mattia chooses carefully. "When you commit to a partner, it is completely different from a normal supply relationship. A partner is someone who supports you, who helps you, and not only from a technical point of view. A partnership develops over the years, across every aspect of the product, from design to the final result. And when you reach a result where both parties are satisfied, it's because the partnership has worked."

For Katia, the 580 Contessa was also a surprise: she hadn't had the chance to see it under construction. "Seeing it so elegant, with the products installed in the right spaces, was a great satisfaction." And a glimpse of what's next: "I can't wait to create something just for FIM. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the collection expands soon, so we can do something truly special for the yacht you have in mind."

Five yachts, one way of working

The 580 Contessa is the second stop of our tour of Cannes: FIM, Pardo GT65, Invictus TT550 and ST550, Bellini Yacht's Astor 68. Four shipyards, five yachts, five different answers to a detail used ten times a day. The difference between these solutions isn't a matter of catalog: it's the result of different conversations, started early, with the people who envisioned the yacht. Over the coming weeks, we'll step aboard the others.
